Counselor's Role at Point Road
Dear Students and Parents,
I have created this website to make access to myself, forms, important dates, and resources easily available to you, so please check back often. I'd like to start by sharing a brief description of the types activities and other services I will be providing at Point Road this year.
- Morning Meetings : I typically meet with classes during their scheduled morning meeting time. With cooperative strategies between myself and the classroom teacher we will engage the students in activities and discussions that relate to their social and emotional development.
- Counseling: Please see the counseling at Point Road tab for more information
- Parent Resources: If you have any questions about your child, or if your child is having difficulty at school you can contact me to discuss the situation.
- Point Pals: Point Pals is a voluntary social skills group that is offered to children who would benefit from additional social support at lunch and recess. Classroom teachers will recommend students for participation.
- Walking Club: Students are encouraged to come join the walking club during recess. Students can walk for the entire recess period or just walk a lap. We match students up with others to help them engage socially.
- Student Jobs- I will coordinate and oversee the students who were selected for jobs within the school. Students who were selected at the end of last year have the opportunity to serve as gardeners, tour guides, photographers, mailmen, and morning greeters.
-Safety Patrol- This year I am thrilled to be the advisor for the 4th grade safety patrol. Students will work through a rotating schedule throughout the year to help the 1st and 2nd grade students during lunch and recess.
-I&RS- At Point Road I serve as the coordinator for the Intervention and Referral Services Team (I&RS). I&RS is a state mandated multi-disciplinary team which designs, implements, and monitors intervention plans for students experiencing difficulties with: learning, behavior, and/ or health.
Please feel free to contact me with comments, questions, or concerns. Thank you so much and I look forward to learning more about you and your children this year!
Fondly,
Miss Ford
